ARM launches the publication “The Golden Bough: A Guide for Responsible Artisanal and Small Scale Mining” authored by members of the RESPOMIN network, sponsored by the Iberomerican Program for Science and Technology for Development (CYTED)
ARM announces the publication of THE GOLDEN BOUGH: A Guide to Responsible Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining. This booklet is a collective work produced by the RESPOMIN network whose members include miners, academics, NGOs, public officials, miners and traders. Its publication has been funded by CYTED, the Programme of Science and Technoclogy for the Development of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (Iberoamerica) (Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo ) (Science and Society Area).
The book sets out the vision and describes the various principles underpinning responsible ASM in clear and accessible language. Although concerned mainly with gold-mining, most of these principles are applicable to any form of mining. The target readership is miners (men and women), organisations supporting ASM and public officials. Inside is a questionnaire for organisations to use as a way of evaluating how far they have succeeded in putting the principles described into practice.
There is also a list of contact points for ASM organizations and various support agencies |
